General Rate Increases Begin for 2019Written on the 5 August 2019 Due to many cancelled sailings in July combined with strong booking trends for August, there have been numerous roll-overs of containers as the shipping lines work to clear the backlog that has accumulated. The Industrial action at DP World terminals have also caused vessel changes and delays, as such the space situation for August is very critical especially for goods of South China origin and departure. Two Carriers have currently informed of a General Rate Increase with the first beginning 15th August. Carrier ANL will implement a rate increase of USD300/20GP & USD600.00/40GP/HC for all Import Cargo into Australia originating from Korea, China, Japan, Hong Kong & Taiwan. The second carrier, Hamburg Sud will implement a rate increase of USD500.00/20GP and USD1000.00/40GP/HC beginning 1st September 2019 for all import cargo from North East Asia to Australia. For most of 2019 we have enjoyed quite reasonable freight rates, however with peak season just around the corner these rate increases are just the beginning of an upward trend for freight costs. As always, if your freight is urgent or you would like to discuss how to optimize your freight expenditure for the 2019 peak season please don't hesitate to contact your Scorpion Representative.
